osmo version control

Every version of every edit, on your Mac. Pick a project, open any version in Resolve on editing proxies, push yours back as the next one. The app sets up Resolve for you.

set up, once

  1. Download Osmo Version Control.

Unzip it, drag it into Applications, open it. Signed and checked by Apple.

    Download for Mac
  2. Sign in with Osmo.

Click it in the app. Your browser opens; click Connect this Mac. The app then puts the Osmo menu and the Osmo panel into Resolve.

  3. Turn on scripts in Resolve.

Resolve > Settings > System > General: set External scripting using to Local. Restart Resolve.

every day

The words: pull, push, clone, sync, light. Everything is in the menu bar; the window has the same, bigger.

  1. Pick the project.
  2. Pull

Pull the latest (or any edit_v). Resolve opens if it's closed, the proxies that cut uses come down, and the timeline opens. On a laptop or slow internet, tick Light proxies under Clone: about 0.7 GB per interview hour instead of 4.4.

  3. Cut like normal. Effects, color, titles, Fusion and the mix all travel with your push. Media from anywhere on your Mac (a logo on the desktop, a song in Downloads) goes up with it too.
  4. Push

The app shows what you changed and writes the note for you; type over it if you want. Push edit_vN saves the Resolve project and makes the next edit_v, the latest. Tick Send for review to get notes on it.

  5. Clone (when you want the whole project on a drive)

Every version and its footage in one folder you pick, an SSD is fine, one folder per project. Sync brings it up to date.

what the messages mean

you seeit meansdo
"Saved as edit_v12, the newest version."Your push is the latest.Nothing.
"It's from edit_v9, and edit_v10 came after that"Someone pushed after you opened yours. Both are saved; yours is the newest. On the project page, ⋯ on your version shows what's different. If their changes matter, open theirs and redo yours on top.
"Nik is cutting too"Nik has the project open in Resolve right now.Tell them yours is the newest.
"No editing proxy for ..."That file has no small proxy yet, so the camera original came down instead (bigger).Fine for now. The DIT can make proxies with osmo-dit proxies.
"... stay offline"Clips from outside Osmo (stock, music, graphics) that aren't on your machine.Relink those by hand, like always.

color

When picture locks, Prep for color on the project page has the agent prepare the locked cut on the camera originals and send the colorist one download link, following the project's color rules. To do it by hand: open the locked edit_v on camera originals, follow the checklist on the same page, and upload the files there.

grades from another version

The colorist graded edit_v10 while you kept cutting? In the Osmo panel: Changes › Bring in the grades from their version. Each clip gets its grade; your cut and sound stay as they are. Push to keep it.

fallback: without the app

Use the app. If it can't run (another Mac, a locked-down machine), the same pull and push work from Resolve alone: Workspace › Workflow Integrations › Osmo (the panel, Resolve Studio) or Workspace › Scripts › Edit › Osmo (Pull, Push, Changes, Start). To install them without the app, make a key below and run this in Terminal; it asks for the key.

zsh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://post.osmo.inc/editors/install.sh)"
